Conservation
Conservation
In the height of the Covid crisis, many wilderness areas were left vacant and workers left with the uncertainty of personal income. This “perfect storm” of conditions left many endangered animals highly vulnerable to wildlife crime. Great Plains Foundation began Project Ranger which helped fill a critical gap in the wildlife monitoring, surveying, and anti-poaching operations of existing NGO’s in Africa through an emergency fund supporting those on the front-lines of conservation. Contributions from guests at Selinda Camp, foundations, and corporate partners will supplement budget deficits with local ground partners by funding salaries, training, and operations of wildlife monitors, rangers and anti-poaching personnel.
Community
Community
Leveraging the resources of Great Plains Conservation, the government of Botswana, and local public and private partnerships, the Great Plains Earth Academy provides personal and community enrichment opportunities for local youth and adults in Botswana’s Okavango Delta through vocational training and conservation education programs. The goals of the academy are to improve participants’ understanding of their local environment and wildlife, promote conservation and sustainable land management practices, and invest in improving the skill and capacity of the local community and workforce. All programs seek to serve the individual while imparting respect for the natural heritage and a solid conservation ethic.
Environment
Environment
Through Conservation Roots the Great Plains Foundation is partnering with local communities to restore indigenous trees to landscapes across Botswana. Working with local communities, partner organizations and school systems Conservation Roots plants indigenous trees and teaches their value and critical role in functioning ecosystems. Guests can also calculate and offset their CO2 emissions by donating to their tree planting scheme.

The best way to give your family the facilities it seeks may be to book out an entire camp or lodge. Perhaps you are planning a multi-generation safari. Or you may want to fulfil a dream of walking, mokoroing and camping out in the Okavango. You may simply crave an extra degree of privacy. Most lodges we use take fewer than 16 guests, some take only eight, so booking a whole lodge is a viable option.
