Location

At The Silo, you’ll be right in the heart of Cape Town, on the V&A Waterfront. The hotel itself occupies the upper six floors of an iconic structure that was once a grain silo building, meaning you’ll have unbeatable views down over the glimmering water, the busy harbour and the bustling city, out to Table Mountain.

Cape Town itself is a busy metropolis brimming with shops, bars, museums, and, with an incredible dining culture, world-renowned restaurants.

Accommodation

With floor-to-ceiling curved windows, the accommodation here is something truly special. Each morning when you wake, you’re greeted by uninterrupted views of the city, right at the foot of your bed. There’s a real focus on art and design here too, so you can be assured your room or suite will be stylish and filled with African art.

Every room features its own colour scheme and decor, but they each promise comfort too, with large beds, plush soft furnishings and spacious en-suite bathrooms.
In the main areas, the efforts put into the design of this one-of-a-kind hotel are clear and you’ll spot further pieces of the curated art selection throughout. Here is where you’ll find the bar, roof-top restaurant, cafe, and library to keep you busy when you’re not exploring the city.

For those looking to keep up with their usual fitness regime, there’s a gym alongside a fantastic spa where you can unwind with some treatments.

Environment
Environment
The architecture and operations at The Silo have been meticulously designed to be as sustainable as possible. When building the hotel, special glazing was chosen for the windows that will control the heat, but also let in lots of natural light. Though the design and chosen building materials allow for a lot of natural ventilation, there are times when air-conditioning is needed and, with the environment in mind, the hotel uses a central sea water cooling plant. This, coupled with the low flow water fittings and fixtures, vastly reduces water consumption.
Culture
Culture
The hotel’s parent company, The Royal Portfolio, also runs a non-for-profit foundation that supports various community projects within the city. Amongst many others, this includes a care centre for children who are unable to continue living with their families. Here the foundation provides funding for day-to-day provisions, donations of educational and creative materials, and birthday gifts for the children, as well as helping with the practical maintenance of the centre and its facilities.
Conservation
Conservation
The foundation supports another local foundation that works to reverse the decline of seabirds in South Africa, including the African penguin. The hotel works to raise funds for this initiative through various campaigns and the said funds go towards the rehabilitation and release of rescued birds that have been injured, oiled, abandoned, or become ill.
