Location

At Tawana you’re right on the banks of the Gomoti River, a prime location for wildlife viewing. You can often spot crocodiles on the river banks or pods of hippo in the water and, as a permanent water source, many mammals head to the river to quench their thirst too. The camp is located in the south-east of the Moremi Game Reserve, an area of grasslands, forest and floodplains, known for its dense and varied wildlife.

You can expect to encounter large herds of elephant and antelope, including the rare sitatunga. You'll find thriving populations of predators too; wild dog, lion, and leopard are frequently seen very close to camp. Keen birders will be pleased to know that over 400 bird species have been recorded here too.

Accommodation

The eight spacious suites at Tawana have been carefully positioned beneath enormous ebony trees, providing privacy and cool shade throughout the day. These suites - and, in fact the entire camp - are raised to allow animals to move freely beneath you, immersing you in the wilderness for the entirety of your stay.

Supremely comfortable, you’ll have a vast bedroom with a separate lounge area as well as an outdoor sala and your own private terrace, complete with a plunge pool, perfect for a refreshing dip after lunch.
Design and decor are contemporary throughout, featuring wood and natural tones to reflect the surrounding landscape. When you’re not out exploring, there are plenty of areas to relax back at camp. Enjoy some time in the library, where you’ll find books on the local area and the Batawana tribe, whose culture is celebrated within camp.

The 16-metre lap pool is the perfect place to watch the world go by with a cool drink close by. Share a pizza in the outdoor dining area or gather around the fire pit to admire the dazzling stars above.

Community
Community
Tawana’s parent company, Natural Selection, identified two key areas in need of funding and development in the rural areas of northwest Botswana: early childhood development and education of women. In May 2024, they opened a children’s centre where 3-5-year-olds attend preschool. This centre now also hosts workshops for local women that aim to educate, promote awareness of women’s rights, and eventually lead them to become financially independent.
Conservation
Conservation
Such high numbers of elephant in the local area has led to wildlife-human conflict, particularly among farming communities for whom the threat of loss of income and crops is very real. Natural Selection has recently funded the Botswana Predator Conservation Project, which aims to foster a harmonious co-existence by helping to find safe, low-tech repellents.

The best way to give your family the facilities it seeks may be to book out an entire camp or lodge. Perhaps you are planning a multi-generation safari. Or you may want to fulfil a dream of walking, mokoroing and camping out in the Okavango. You may simply crave an extra degree of privacy. Most lodges we use take fewer than 16 guests, some take only eight, so booking a whole lodge is a viable option.
