Exclusive Charm on Assam’s
Great River
A nouka‑style Assamese houseboat with a traditional pansoinau flat‑bottom design, MV Rudra Singha’s shallow‑draft construction allows it to navigate even the Brahmaputra’s narrowest winter channels. It can reach remote riverine communities and wildlife areas that larger vessels cannot and can pull up to beaches for picnics and evening sundowners.

This appealing, enchanting boat has ample space for a couple of lucky passengers, cared for by a crew who know the river like the back of their hands.

Location

This delectable houseboat slips over the surface of the Brahmaputra: more than a river, this is a living force that shapes the geography and character of Assam. Springing from the glaciers of Tibet, the Brahmaputra winds and surges for almost 3,000 kilometres. Flowing through India, it merges with the Ganges in Bangladesh to discharge through the world’s largest delta in the Bay of Bengal.

Locals revere the river as Burha Luit – Old Father – the only male deity among India’s rivers, embodying powerful, masculine energy. Along the stretch where MV Rudra Singha sails lies Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sanctuary for elephants, rhinos, and tigers, making every journey a passage through myth, wilderness, and timeless beauty.

Accommodation

Built in 2017 by skilled Assamese craftsmen, this elegant nouka‑style vessel combines traditional design with modern comfort. Its flat‑bottomed form glides smoothly across the river, while interiors are thoughtfully appointed to create a sense of authentic understated indulgence. With a dedicated crew of four, the boat is offered on an exclusive‑use basis, ensuring privacy and a highly personal atmosphere.

Accommodation includes an air‑conditioned twin or double cabin with ensuite facilities, designed for restful nights in cool comfort. A private lounge with panoramic river views provides a serene space to unwind, furnished with inviting sofas and warm, natural textures.
For families or small groups, the lounge can be converted into an additional bedroom, allowing up to four guests to share the experience together.

Outdoor decks extend the living space, offering shaded corners for relaxation and open areas to enjoy the breeze. Dining is a highlight, with meals prepared onboard using fresh local ingredients, served either in the lounge or al fresco on deck.

The overall vibe is intimate, relaxed, and deeply connected to its surroundings: an atmosphere where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary ease, creating a characterful floating retreat that feels highly personal.

Why We Include MV Rudra Singha in Our Journeys

MV Rudra Singha offers a deeply personal and extraordinary way to experience one of the world’s greatest rivers, its wildlife and its communities. With only a small team on board, it delivers quiet immersion in river life and is far from a typical tourist experience. It’s unmistakably Journeysmiths. We weave it into itineraries that take in other aspects of Assam, such as tea plantations and land-stays in the national parks seeking out rhinos, elephants and tigers.
