Camelthorn Lodge is an incredible place to stay, as it's located within the first of the rhino sanctuaries on the border of Hwange National Park. Here, the two male rhino roam free under 24/7 protection of the Cobra Anti-Poaching unit. Whilst the rhino are very much wild, they have become use to people, which means that a walking safari with your expert guide will allow you to calming walk with the rhino - an experience I will never forget!
Why We Stand By This Rhino Relocation
As the name would suggest, the initiative places community at the centre of the conservation efforts. In 2022, in a world-first, two white rhino were reintroduced onto community-owned land. This ensured the release has benefiting the local people through employment, education, human-wildlife conflict alleviation and direct revenue.
This will not only minimise human-wildlife conflicts but also accommodate a viable population of free roaming white and black rhino, and other wildlife, that will provide community upliftment.
