1. Going Private & Personal in Rome

A true experience of Rome goes well beyond the postcard locations, so let's arrange some special extras. For starters, enjoy a private tour of a Baroque ecclesiastical gem on the edge of the ancient forum. You’ll marvel at its graceful travertine façade, and majestic dome before descending into the depths below to see stunning artworks and the tomb of the church’s masterful architect.

Then, if you’re a hands-on type, we’ll arrange a masterclass in the art of Roman sandal making, and you’ll have a souvenir that’s useful, beautiful, different, and is a connection to the artisan traditions of this culture.

As the sun descends over the Eternal City, we’ll whisk you away to an ancient Roman villa for an unforgettable evening with the finest of Italian wine and cuisine. This heady combination of a glorious setting, intimacy and refined culture will exemplify your whole Roman experience.
Nothing beats staying in a luxurious and elegant hotel at the heart of Rome, an easy stroll from unmissable locations like Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The perks of somewhere like Palazzo Roma include not just immaculate service and cuisine in a beautiful building, but also the chance to visit iconic sites at leisure, particularly in the cool of the morning before the masses arrive.
Cultural highlights: A private and personal tour of a Baroque gem juxtaposed with the ancient Roman Forum. A craftsman masterclass making your own Roman sandals. Fine dining at the heart of the city. Art and architecture at your luxury hotel, which, if it is Palazzo Roma, ranges from 19th-century floor-to-ceiling frescos to Pop Art.

Suggested Reading: ‘Meditations’ by Marcus Aurelius. The memorial column to this philosopher-Emperor is about a minute away from Palazzo Roma.

2. Culture & Tradition in Umbria

The rolling countryside of Umbria, often referred to as ‘Italy’s Green Heart’, was absorbed by the expanding Roman republic, but the ancient people of this region continued to pass on the cultural traditions of their rural ancestors despite the force of the urban tide. The Umbrians are survivors. According to Pliny, even the Great Flood of Greek mythology hadn’t wiped them out.

In an unbroken lineage of artisanal apprenticeship and mastery, the textile patterns of Umbria have been maintained from ancient times to today within a workshop that we’ll arrange for you to experience.

You’ll learn the techniques and secrets of fabrics that can be seen in the works of Giotto and Leonardo while you contemplate Nona, the Roman goddess of fate responsible for the thread of life.
The theme of rich colours and traditions continues when you have an immersive experience in the care of a family skilled in the art of painted glass. These guardians of beauty and memory are the latest custodians of a workshop founded by their ancestor five generations ago.

When staying in Umbria, it’s appropriate to have a country setting, which is more than provided in the idyllic estate of Borgobrufa Spa. Despite its rurality, it’s also within easy striking distance of Assisi and Perugia.
Cultural Highlights: Learn the secrets of handmade textiles seen in the artworks dating from the early Renaissance. Become part of a family of glass painters for the day. Delight in the Etruscan architecture of Perugia and visit the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi. If you stay at Borgobrufa Spa, take the opportunity to learn about olive oil production and viticulture.

Suggested Reading: ‘Peter Camenzind’ by Hermann Hesse. It’s a profound story of self-discovery where the protagonist’s experiences in Umbria help him to appreciate humanity in its noblest form.

3. Hidden Gems & Elegance in Palermo

The power of the family unit is central to life in Italy, and there’s nowhere quite like the island of Sicily to appreciate how dynasties based on loyalty to ancestors and relations have shaped history and culture.

A city like Palermo, Sicily’s capital, is a place of rich discovery for the adventurous and inquisitive, but it’s also a complex enigma. We’ve discovered that one way to help people understand at least some of it is to follow the marks left by powerful members of one family: the Florio matriarchs. You’ll step into the glamour of the Belle Époque as you learn about these visionary entrepreneurs and cultural patrons, and discover architectural gems left by them on a bespoke tour of the city.

From Liberty-style Villino Florio and striking Teatro Massimo to neogothic Palazzina dei Quattro Pizzi and enchanting Villa Igiea, the thread of the Florios can be seen everywhere.
When you stay at Grand Hotel et des Palmes, you’ll experience the Arte Nouveau former home of another Palermo family: the Ingham-Whittakers, a British-Sicilian dynasty who made their fortune exporting Marsala. Another residence of theirs was Villa Malfitano, which now houses their natural history and archaeological collections.

For a spectacle of a natural variety, Monte Pellegrino, which looms over the city, was once described by Goethe as “the most beautiful promontory in the word”.
Cultural Highlights: The opulent Arte Nouveau buildings associated with the Florio and Ingham-Whittaker families. The mixture of Norman, Arab, Romanesque and Byzantine architectural styles throughout Palermo, no better exemplified than in the Cathedral. Richard Wagner’s piano in Grand Hotel et des Palmes.

Suggested Reading: ‘The Florios of Sicily’ by Stefania Auci. This international bestseller follows 70 years of this Palermo family.

4. Versailles, After the Gates Close

At court, it pays to have connections who can unlock the doors that are closed to others. Here at Versailles, the world’s most staggeringly lavish palace, the way in for you will be a side gate after the masses have departed. The senior curator, normally someone who briefs heads of state, will be your guide to the King’s private library, the Queen’s theatre, Marie-Antoinette’s boudoir. No one in the modern world knows these spaces better than them.

Then, with the hushed tones that such unique places demand, you’ll enter the candlelit sanctum of opulence: the Hall of Mirrors. A string quartet plays softly, and you’re transported through time to experience the space as it was first seen. Then to dinner, served in the Orangerie or in a private royal salon; the setting, sensations and service defining immaculate perfection.
The privilege of special access continues when you stay at Le Grand Contrôle, the former residence of the man who held the king’s purse strings, now a luxury boutique hotel just yards away from the heart of the palace. If you want, they’ll wake you in the style of 18th-century French royalty and even give you access to the clothing of the era.

You’ll be shown the Trianon before the gates open, marvel at the dressage skills of the riders at the king’s stables, and enjoy access to the gardens and grounds at their most idyllic moments.
Cultural Highlighs: Behind-the-scenes access to the Palace of Versailles without the public to get in the way. Formal gardens of 800 hectares with 400 statues, all easily seen on an electric buggy from Le Grand Contrôle. The chance to experience opera and even a private concert in the Royal Opera House. In short, Baroque elegance and luxury up-close.

Suggested Reading: ‘Candide’ by Voltaire. Short and thought-provoking, this work by a regular member of the court at Versailles will get you wondering if this is the ‘best of all possible worlds’.

5. Dior, Behind the Seams

‘It had to be 30, Avenue Montaigne,’ wrote Christian Dior in his memoir about the building he described as his creative ‘beehive’. Today, in the quiet of the early hours, La Galerie Dior opens just for you. The sweeping staircase spirals around the dresses that have defined fashion, and a historian of culture unfolds a Parisian story that Dior defined as the ‘refuge of the marvellous’.

Later, at a discreet nearby studio, you’ll spend time with a senior designer. This is the heart of the creative process: a choreographed journey from sketch to silhouette, mannequin to model, concept and dream to reality and legacy. Then, on the rooftop, it’s time for that most cultured of celebrations, Champagne, while across the river the Eiffel Tower catches the last light.

Elegance is taken seriously in Paris, and when you stay at Le Cheval Blanc, you’ll be in an Art Nouveau classic defined by the nation as a ‘monument historique’.
Recently reopened after a restoration of more than a decade by none other than President Macron, Le Cheval Blanc’s position looking out over the Pont Neuf bridge means that it’s at the heart of a cultural wonderland. A short stroll takes you to Le Louvre, the Marais district, the Musée d’Orsay, the Tuileries Gardens and the ancient sites of the Ile de la Cité. Gasp-worthy views from the rooms sweep over the Seine from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower.
Cultural Highlights Personal attention and unique insights into th very essence of fashion at the home of Dior. Art Nouveau styling at Le Cheval Blanc, which shares its building with iconic department store La Samaritaine. The world’s best treasure trove of art at the Louvre, just a short walk away.

Suggested Reading ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ by Victor Hugo. When he wrote this classic, he was living only a few hundred metres away from the site that would become La Samaritaine about a decade before he died.

6. Secrets of the Vine

The most fascinating of stories involve love triangles, and so it goes in the narrative of a nation whose palates are entranced by wine. A trio of personalities flavour their passion. In the west, there’s elegant and expressive Burgundy, while in the east of centre complicated Bordeaux defies understanding. And in the north? It’s the home of effervescent and exciting Champagne. Vive la difference, for variety is the spice of life.

A true understanding of the character of a wine requires going beyond the simple façade, and if there’s a visitor centre, signs and velvet ropes, you’re only skimming the surface. On the other hand, if you’re sharing a 2CV with a local expert and able to put your fingers in the soil of some of the world’s most valuable vineyards, you’re on the way – detective-style – to a forensic understanding.

Following a lead, you’ll head to an unmarked gate, which will open just for you. It may be a chateau or the home of an oenologist, but the owner will be waiting and willing as an expert witness.
You won’t be led through spaces designed for visitors, but instead through the heart of the home. There’ll be family portraits, maps of the terroir, and the patina of the knowledge and toil of generations. In the cool of the private cellar, you’ll feel history itself, and over an intimate lunch there will be secrets revealed that hint at whole new chapters to interpret. Dinner that evening will be a candlelit affair, and you’ll be intoxicated by the privilege of having been a confidante in this unfolding chronicle.
Cultural Highlights: The traditions and rich history of wine, be it in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, or all of them. Personal attention and advice from wine experts, including the owners of some of the most valuable land there is.

Suggested Reading: “Essays” by Michel de Montaigne, who was part of the Yquem family. His relative, Louis d’Eyquem, owned the chateau whose lands have produced one of Bordeaux’s most famous and expensive wines. Written in the 1580s, Montaigne’s short pieces of humble wisdom had a profound influence on Shakespeare.

7. Private Lascaux with a Prehistorian

The visitors have gone. The cave awaits. Its secrets are ready for you to discover by the glow of a lantern held by the hand of an expert. Gradually, your senses adjust in the silent coolness, and you start to see patterns and colours emerge. This is spellbinding and heart-thumping territory, down here in a place that lay dormant for almost 20,000 years. The sense of time is powerful.

The intensity of the human drive to produce art is staggering as hundreds of paintings are revealed to you. Venturing deeper, a new space emerges. A space just for you, and a place where you’ll have your unforgettable moment at this end of history.

A Michelin-starred chef, skilled in the cooking techniques discovered by paleo-archaeologists, reveals dishes that bridge the survival of our ancestors with the finesse of accumulated culture. There’s no music, no show, just the flavours and the unbelievable setting.
As for places to stay in the Vézère Valley, UNESCO-listed for its importance in palaeontology, one option is Les Glycines. The images of the walls of Lascaux show the importance of horses in prehistory, and our equine companions were also the origin of Les Glycines. As a ‘relais de poste’, it was a place of rest and recuperation for horses that pulled the coaches connecting the nation in the 19th century. Nowadays, the rejuvenation is just for humans, who enjoy a gorgeous spa and superb Perigord cuisine.
Cultural Highlights: Enjoy more than 600 prehistoric paintings in privacy. Enjoy Michelin-starred caveman cuisine in a setting like no other. Discover the art of the entire Vézère valley, including the caves at Font-de-Gaume, near Les Glycines.

Suggested Reading: ‘Time and Individuality’ by John Dewey. Written in 1940, the same year that the Lascaux Caves were discovered, Dewey’s essay included the quotation: “Art is not the possession of the few who are recognized writers, painters, musicians; it is the authentic expression of any and all individuality.”

8. Three Days of Highlights in Scotland

Scotland offers a spellbinding blend of dramatic landscapes, centuries-old history, and a culture that pulses with pride and passion. It’s a place of eerie beauty along shores of misty lochs, ancient castles steeped in legend, and lively cities brimming with art, music, beautiful architecture, and world-renowned hospitality.
The history of Scotland is etched in every stone of every ruin and echoes to the sound of bagpipes. It’s the birthplace of literary giants, scientific pioneers, and distinctive traditions that include Highland games, tartan kilts and ceilidh dancing. Food lovers seek out delicacies such as haggis and smoked salmon, while whisky aficionados journey through dozens of historic distilleries.

Whether you’re stalking on a moor, revelling in the culture of the Edinburgh Festival, or teeing off on a golf course, Scotland invites you to experience something truly unforgettable.

Day 1: A Highland Adventure

From the geological drama of Arthur’s Seat, with phenomenal views over Edinburgh from its peak, the glens of Perthshire are within easy reach. Accompanied by a personal guide, mountain-rescue trained and an expert navigator, you’ll enjoy a journey on foot to suit your pace, interests and goals. That might be to bag a Munro, hike to a lesser peak with a sweeping vista of a loch, or just a gentle stroll through the heather.

Perhaps you’ll be taken to a spot for wild swimming or be met by a falconer who will demonstrate the hunting skills of the hills. Lunch will be alfresco and in the most scenic of spots, with the finest of local produce, enhanced by mountain air. You could opt for continuing on an electric bike, or speed through the forests in a Land Rover. All these things in the rugged outdoor Scotland of the hills will justify your spot by a roaring fire that evening.

Day 2: Royal Edinburgh

A city like no other, Edinburgh has architectural, topographical, cultural and intellectual reasons for being referred to as the ‘Athens of the North’. This is what you may ponder from the walls of the castle in the early morning light, before the gates have been opened to the crowds. You’re here for more than the view, though. You’re here to have an exclusive viewing of the Crown Jewels and ancient stone vaults in peaceful silence.

Then it’s down the Royal Mile, on foot discovering tucked-away closes, or by chauffeured vehicle if you want, to the palace of Holyrood House or perhaps the Court of Lord Lyon to learn about heraldic history. A tour of the Cathedral of St Giles, and tea at Signet Library in the company of one of the Writers to His Majesty’s Signet can be fitted in along the way.

Fancy designing your own tartan and even registering it officially? That’s what can be arranged at the beautiful atelier of Aramintha Campbell. Then, it’s dinner at a stately home to tell tales of your day to the Scottish aristocracy.

Day 3: An East Lothian Escape

Imagine waking up in your own 16th-century castle. That’s what you can do at Fenton Tower, a fortified refuge that sheltered King James VI in 1591 from a rebel army. Ruined 40 years later by Oliver Cromwell, it’s now restored and is a place to enjoy peaceful, exclusive accommodation rather than the noise of clamouring hordes.

What will your day bring? Will it be a round of golf on one of more than 100 local courses? Will it be fishing on a river, loch, or the sea? Is partridge shooting your bag, or would you rather watch the gannets on Bass Rock? Perhaps galloping along golden sands on horseback is how you want to see the coast, or would you rather fly over it in a helicopter? All these things, and more, are what you can do in East Lothian.

And back in the Great Hall of your castle, it’s time to be piped into dinner, served in Caledonian style by the in-house staff. Did King James have it so good?
Scotland abounds with possibilities. You could revel in first-class service on the Royal Scotsman luxury train and sit down to tea at Balmoral Castle before a private tour of the grounds with the head gardener. Exclusive experiences at whisky distilleries, silversmiths, and salmon smokehouses can be part of a typical day, as can fencing lessons, bagpipe instruction, and evenings of reeling.

Tell us what interests you about Scotland, and we’ll use our contacts to make sure that you are enriched in the most personal of ways.
Cultural Highlights: An array of personal appointments in Edinburgh’s Old Town, including the castle and Crown Jewels, Holyrood Palace, and heritage sites along the Royal Mile. Walks in the mountains and hills of Scotland with a local guide. A historical stay in East Lothian and chances to interact with the country’s rich traditions of literature, music, cuisine, national dress, dancing and pastimes.

Suggested Reading: ‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson. A native of Edinburgh, Stevenson’s inspiration came from the islands lying off the East Lothian coast.

9. Ancient Greece in Privacy

In the quiet mindfulness of the morning, you sit with the goddess Athena. Ever watchful, she’s protecting her city from her Acropolis vantage point. The light of Helios streams between the columns of the Parthenon as he begins his daily chariot ride across the skies. And a bird sings. You can hear it because this is a moment of peace, well before the daily procession of more than 20,000 sightseers. This is Ancient Greece as it should be experienced.

Soon, you’re following Helios westwards in your own chariot – a helicopter – and heading to Delphi, the place regarded by ancient Greeks as the centre of the world. It was here that Apollo defeated Python, where the Oracle advised Alexander the Great and proclaimed the wisdom of Socrates. Today, it’s you who has come to touch the stones and consider both the distant past and your own future.
The ancient Greeks knew that wisdom and understanding come from unhurried reflection, from the cultivation of a tranquil mind, and from stepping away at the right moments from the hurly-burly of life. That’s just one reason for bespoke, calm and personal experiences in Athens and its surroundings.

From private and relaxed access to Poseidon’s Temple to a guided hike in the timeless landscape of Meteora, or quiet moments at the theatre of Epidaurus, the way of the sage is how to experience Greece. You’ll finish your day, having seized the possibilities, in the best of epicurean traditions: an exceptional dinner with a view over Athens at the Benaki Museum.
Cultural Highlights: Out-of-hours access and the Acropolis to yourself in the cool of the day. A flight to Delphi, home of the ancient Oracle. Dining with a timeless view on the roof terrace of the Benaki Museum. Many other bespoke cultural excursions around the cradle of Western civilisation, including Epidaurus and Meteora.

Suggested Reading: ‘The King Must Die’ by Mary Renault. Set in ancient Greece, this novel follows the life of Theseus, the legendary hero and founder of Athens.

10. A Greek Culinary Odyssey

Grounded in the tradition of Symposium feasts, the festival of Bacchus, and the ‘seize the day’ philosophy of Epicurus, Greece has always embraced the concept of enjoying good food and wine. Why would the gods give us the sense of taste if we weren’t meant to enjoy it? Indeed, civilisation surely could be defined as embracing life rather than just enduring it.

There’s no better way to experience Greek culinary traditions than to get your fingers in the dough in a farmhouse kitchen on the Peloponnese peninsula. With understated expert guidance, your host will walk with you through the gardens, harvesting the organic ingredients that will combine into the flavours enjoyed for millennia. Cutting, mixing, boiling, baking, smiling, laughing and sharing conversation, you’ll discover that your meal – in the shade of a vine-clad pergola – has been immeasurably enhanced by preparing it.
A private food tour of Athens itself embraces the bustling central market, not so different from the Agora where Socrates debated, where the blend of sweet and savoury delights is a showcase of vibrant culinary traditions.

A ‘meze’ meal of many courses will be enhanced by the array of spirits, playing their part in the conviviality. For further insight into liquid augmenters, a Peloponnese feast with curated premium Semeli wines at a local vineyard is our recommendation.
Cultural Highlights: Learn about the rich culinary traditions of Athens and the Peloponnese peninsula directly from those that know them best. The excitement of ingredient shopping in the modern-day agora of Athens. Greek wine and spirits, those lubricants of debate and conversation.

Suggested Reading: ‘The Fourfold Remedy’ by John Sellars. This slim guide to the philosophy of Epicurus will help you to appreciate the one life you have but also to understand the difference between indulgence and overindulgence.

11. Greek Islands Beyond the Map

Greece is much more than the mainland treasures of Athens, Olympia, Delphi, Corinth and Sparta. It’s also a constellation of jewel-like islands set within a shimmering sea, a wondrous realm of gods and heroes, of epic journeys facing monsters and searching for paradise. The most valiant of the Greeks set forth into uncharted waters to experience an epic life entwined with the islands: Hercules, Achilles, Odysseus, Perseus, Theseus, Jason, and more, are names known to us all.

To give you a taste of a journey in the ancient past, we’ll take you to Polyaigos, the largest uninhabited island in Greece. What awaits are crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches in secluded coves, where you can plunge in, snorkel, and seek the monk seals. Step ashore and you’ll encounter creatures that seem almost mythical; for Polyaigos means ‘Many Goats’. Then we’ll venture on to the island of Kimolos for a traditional meal as the sun sets.
Another voyage takes you to the western Saronic Islands, close enough to Athens for leisurely access yet worlds apart in terms of pace and outlook. You’ll explore the narrow streets of Hydra; an island whose remarkable longevity and quality of life is the subject of Daniel Klein’s ‘Travels with Epicurus’. There are private island gems to discover too, such as Spetsopoula, and the charming town of Spetses to explore before returning to the Peloponnese mainland and the Port of Heli.

Those trips are just the start of what’s possible in the seas of Greece. Will you stay on the rim of the caldera of Santorini, or on a bay on vibrant Mykonos? Perhaps an unspoiled lesser-known secret like Antiparos is more your thing. Anywhere you choose, you can guarantee that the Greeks – those lovers of proportion and beauty since ancient times – will have built a beautiful villa for you to enjoy.
Cultural Highlights: The fascinating diversity and charm of Greek islands, from rocky yet beautiful outcrops populated only by goats to sophisticated paradises populated by the smart set of Athens. With temples and ancient theatres, historic windmills, and whitewashed houses clad in bougainvillaea, there’s plenty to venture inland for. Otherwise, just swim, jump, snorkel and float in the warm pure waters of the endless coast.

Suggested Reading: ‘The Colossus of Maroussi’ by Henry Miller. An account of his adventure through the Greek Islands while journeying to see his friend Lawrence Durrell. In it, he wrote, “The light of Greece opened my eyes, penetrated my pores, expanded my whole being.”

12. Fashion Adventures in Greece

In Greek mythology it was Hephaestus and Athena who jointly taught mortals crafts and arts, and it was Hephaestus who married Aphrodite, goddess of beauty, clothing and therefore fashion. Blending craftsmanship with elegance, the influence of these gods is embodied in Athenian artisans and couturiers to this very day.

Step into an atelier of distinction and spend personal time with acclaimed designer Vassilis Zoulias, whose elegant silhouettes have appeared in ‘Emily in Paris’. If you want, there’ll be time for a styling session or fitting. You’ll be guided by a private advisor who will blend this experience with a tour around the designers of Athens based on your personal aesthetic.

In the spirit of Hephaestus, whose principal skill was metalworking, the next stop may be a silversmith jewellery designer. You’ll learn how ancient stories inspire contemporary wearable works of art.
This may seem like it’s a far cry from the days of the toga, but when you join a master craftsman tucked away in a studio, you’ll discover the secrets of another item of clothing not so different from those ancient days: sandals. You’ll design your own pair and leave with the personalised, practical and beautiful gift of handmade Greek shoes. Unfortunately, the winged heels of Hermes are not an option.
Cultural Highlights A genuinely personal interaction with a Greek creative at the cutting edge of contemporary fashion. A silversmith workshop seeing and creating things that are valuable in more ways than one. Bridging the ancient past to the present reality, a masterclass in sandal making.

Suggested Reading: ‘Zorba the Greek’ by Nikos Kazantzakis. The fashion label Zara was originally going to be called Zorba, after this book, before owner Amancio Ortega saw a bar with that name.

What Really Matters to Young Children on a Kenya Family Safari

I have spent the last 18 years travelling to some of the planet’s most incredible places under the guise of ‘work’. For 11 of those, I have been waiting for my young family to be old enough to join me. In October 2022, that time finally came. Our first family safari in Kenya was perhaps even more special as, like many holidays, it had been postponed twice due to the COVID pandemic but, wow, was it worth the wait!

Stargazing on safari

A safari in the wilds of Africa allows you space to pause and wonder – to gaze and reflect. Epic landscapes, the balanced beauty of creation, the absence of hurry. You would imagine that the day’s adventures end with the setting sun. But as one star disappears and the heavens turn indigo to black, millions more appear, filling the unpolluted skies. We’ve chosen a few of our favourite spots for safari stargazing.

Where to track rhino

A sighting of any one of the Big Five is a cause for great excitement. But spotting a rhino in the wild? It is one of those things that dreams are made of. At around a tonne in weight, and generally considered to be the second largest land mammal, they shouldn’t be hard to see, but poaching has devastated population numbers. Park authorities have to be very cautious with any information they share about rhino numbers and regarding their whereabouts. An encounter, therefore, truly is a privilege.

Antarctica: What to Expect from a Polar Cruise

Nothing can really prepare you for an expedition in the white continent. It really is a destination quite unlike any other. 5 Spectacular Wildlife
Encounters in India

The vast majority of people think about India primarily as a cultural destination. Yes, the Taj Mahal is a must-see, and the country boasts dozens of UNESCO-listed ruins and monuments, not to mention dazzling festivals and other events. But the landscapes and wildlife were here long before the people, and the subcontinent still has extraordinary wild places you can explore, from the sands of the Thar Desert to the backwaters of Kerala; the high Himalayas to the jungles of Northeast India.

Top 10 Experiences in India

The young poet and playwright Kiran Millwood Hargrave said "India is a place where colour is doubly bright. Pinks that scald your eyes, blues you could drown in." It's a quote that captures the marvellous intensity of experiencing India.
