8. Three Days of Highlights in Scotland
Whether you’re stalking on a moor, revelling in the culture of the Edinburgh Festival, or teeing off on a golf course, Scotland invites you to experience something truly unforgettable.
Day 1: A Highland Adventure
Perhaps you’ll be taken to a spot for wild swimming or be met by a falconer who will demonstrate the hunting skills of the hills. Lunch will be alfresco and in the most scenic of spots, with the finest of local produce, enhanced by mountain air. You could opt for continuing on an electric bike, or speed through the forests in a Land Rover. All these things in the rugged outdoor Scotland of the hills will justify your spot by a roaring fire that evening.
Day 2: Royal Edinburgh
Then it’s down the Royal Mile, on foot discovering tucked-away closes, or by chauffeured vehicle if you want, to the palace of Holyrood House or perhaps the Court of Lord Lyon to learn about heraldic history. A tour of the Cathedral of St Giles, and tea at Signet Library in the company of one of the Writers to His Majesty’s Signet can be fitted in along the way.
Fancy designing your own tartan and even registering it officially? That’s what can be arranged at the beautiful atelier of Aramintha Campbell. Then, it’s dinner at a stately home to tell tales of your day to the Scottish aristocracy.
Day 3: An East Lothian Escape
What will your day bring? Will it be a round of golf on one of more than 100 local courses? Will it be fishing on a river, loch, or the sea? Is partridge shooting your bag, or would you rather watch the gannets on Bass Rock? Perhaps galloping along golden sands on horseback is how you want to see the coast, or would you rather fly over it in a helicopter? All these things, and more, are what you can do in East Lothian.
And back in the Great Hall of your castle, it’s time to be piped into dinner, served in Caledonian style by the in-house staff. Did King James have it so good?
